46th Annual Scientific Meeting and AGM: "Forward Thinking, Forward Development - The Excellence of Dental Therapists" skills for the dental team in promoting oral hygiene behaviour

Barcelo Oxford Hotel

Fri 12 Jun 2009 - Sat 13 Jun 2009

The British Association Of Dental Therapists are delighted to announce details of our ASM in
beautiful Oxford, the City of Dreaming Spires.

Oxford is famous the world over for its University and place in history. For over 800 years, it has
been a home to royalty and scholars, although people are known to have lived in the area for
thousands of years.

Nowadays it is a bustling cosmopolitan city. Still with its ancient University, but home also to a
growing hi-tech community.

One of the city's leading 4-star hotels, the Barcelo Oxford Hotel is located only 2 miles (3.2 km) from the city centre and minutes from the A34 and M40, whilst the train station is only three miles away.

The hotel offers modern, designer en suite bedrooms, stylish dining in the Medio Restaurant & Bar and a health and fitness club. Ample car parking is also available.

Friday night is a casino themed night so ladies bring your finest evening wear and gentlemen black tie is the order of the evening.

We have a great programme lined up for you. With Continuing Professional Development now mandatory we have extended the programme to a full two days so you can accrue more points during the two day event.

We have specialist speakers from the United Kingdom and Europe. Separate hands-on seminars are running concurrently with the programme starting from Friday afternoon on bleaching and composite build up techniques.

Be sure to book your place early as numbers are limited for these smaller programmes.

We now extend our welcome to all members of the dental team and we hope you will join us this year for another informative and enjoyable event.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Review into NHS Dentistry: NESC

University of Portsmouth

Professor Steele will address the audience on the findings of his independent review of NHS Dental Services in England. Professor Steele is an enthusiastic and engaging speaker and his presentation will be followed by an open forum chaired by Helen Falcon, Postgraduate Dental Dean, NESC.

We anticipate that Professor Steele’s vision of the changing face of NHS dentistry will appeal to any dental professional with an interest in providing services under NHS contract. We therefore urge you to book early to avoid disappointment as places will be limited.

There will be a nominal fee of £10.00 per participant to cover light refreshments. The meeting has been approved for 3 hours of CPD.

South West and South Wales Regional Study Day -: An Introduction to Dental Hypnosis for Dentists and Dental Therapists

City Inn Hotel, Bristol

Sat 12 Sep 2009 09:00

Our overall aim is to introduce dentists and dental therapists to the use of hypnotic techniques in dentistry.

There will be an emphasis on gaining an understanding of the nature of hypnosis through practical experiences and demonstrations. Participants will be asked to examine these experiences in discussion with fellow participants, in order to consolidate their learning. Teaching is ‘workshop style’ and includes short talks and video / DVD clips to illustrate the potential of using hypnosis in the dental setting.

Should there be sufficient interest this introductory session can be followed by a two-day workshop in which further clinical skills are taught.

The course is open to Dentists and Dental Therapists.

Attendance on the introductory course and two–day workshop can be counted towards the required attendance for the Hypnosis Unit UK certificate in Dental Hypnosis.
